Dear Jenny,

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. It is much appreciated and really does help us to improve the service we offer to our patients.

I can understand why you may think chewing gum seems like an odd thing to do in a professional environment. However, our members of our staff do chew gum on occasion for the dental health benefits. Chewing any regular sugar free gum can help prevent cavities by removing food particles from the surfaces of your teeth. Chewing also stimulates the production of saliva, which helps clear away food, strengthen teeth, and reduce the levels of acid in your mouth that cause tooth decay. I do hope that explains why members of our staff are permitted to chew gum. I am very happy to chat more with you should you wish.

Best Wishes,
Katie
